The Flood, Requiem in Romania.

On May 11 Requiem 1953 will be performed by the Moldova State Philharmonic in Iasi (Romania) under the new title The Flood, Requiem. The orchestra and choir are conducted by Marcel Verhoeff. The large-scale piece, written in 2002, had its first seven performances in 2003 during the commemoration of the flood that struck The Netherlands in 1953. According to the Dutch press The Flood is an 'enchanting requiem'.  The initiative for this concert has been taken by Marcel Verhoeff. Verhoeff is conductor of the Don KosakenChor Russland and has been guest-conductor at the Rumanian State Opera, the in Cluj-Napoca, the State Philharmonic at Iasi, the State Oopera of Moldavia, the State Symphony in Vilnius (Lithuania) and the Philharmonic in Prague.

The concert on May 11 concerns an entirely revisited version of the requiem. Beside attending repetitions and the concert, I'll also give a lecture at the University of Iasi.   The concert is supported by the NFPK+ and Foundation John Kasander.  Here are some soundclips if the 2003-performances:

 

two new reviews

Last week saw the release of two new reviews on my new CD House of Mirrors. The first appeared on the site Opus Klassiek. You can read the full review (Dutch) here. The review concludes with : "the pieces are written with a lot of imagination, and as a result both interesting and inviting". The second review appeared in the magazine Arts en Auto. The article about House of Mirrors is here. The review opens with : "a splendid album with pleasant repetitive music....."  

spectacular finale

After the Italian premiere last week of La Casa degli Specchi by the Rome-based ensemble Picolla Academia degli Specchi (according to the ensemble a 'spectacular finale of a vibrating concert'), there's another gig next week. The Italian pianist and composer Francesco di Fiore will perform Theme from Wiek in Paola in the south of Italy.

Lavinia Meijer & Feico Deutekom

At the moment I'm rewriting Les Chants Estivaux for harpist Lavinia Meijer and pianist Feico Deutekom. The piece, originally conceived for four grand pianos, will be performed next season. Dates aren't set yet.  Lavinia en Feico started there corporation during a concert with Philip Glass, Tim Fain and the Attacca Ensemble in May 2011 in the Melkweg, Amsterdam. Here's a clip with the both of them, doing a concert in the Sieraad, Amsterdam, novemver 2011.

Lavinia Meijer is the ambassador for Aangenaam Klassiek 2011. As a special present she recorded the Metamorphosis of Philip Glass, which will be included with the Aangenaam Klassiek cd box (only available in the Netherlands).
